Principles of Responsible Research Assessment
The editorial practices of the journal "Geography and Tourism" are based on the recommendations of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
The Editorial Board follows a key principle:
- not to use journal-level metrics (including the impact factor) as a decisive indicator of the quality of individual scientific articles.
- The journal applies the following approaches:
- presents journal performance indicators in the context of various scientometric metrics (where available), providing a comprehensive view of its development;
- promotes the evaluation of research based on content rather than journal bibliometric indicators;
- supports responsible authorship by specifying each author's contribution;
- does not restrict the reuse of reference lists and ensures their openness in accordance with open license principles;
- encourages proper citation of original sources and appropriate acknowledgment of primary research authors;
- recognizes the diversity of scientific outputs and accepts various types of scholarly materials for publication.
Adherence to FAIR Principles
The Editorial Board of the journal "Geography and Tourism" adheres to the FAIR principles, according to which research data should be:
- Findable;
- Accessible;
- Interoperable;
- Reusable.
The Editorial Board recommends that authors:
- store underlying research data in appropriate repositories;
- assess research data using tools such as FAIRAware and the Fair Data Self-Assessment Tool;
- develop and follow a Data Management Plan (DMP) using international templates and platforms;
- ensure proper data description in accordance with international standards.
Authors are advised to manage their research data responsibly, including preparing and following a Data Management Plan using established models and platforms, to avoid data distortion during the research process.
Research Data Deposition Policy
The journal "Geography and Tourism" supports open access to research data associated with publications.
The Editorial Board recommends that authors:
- deposit research data in institutional, national, or international repositories (e.g., eKNUTSHIR, Zenodo, or others listed in repository registries);
- ensure long-term data preservation and the use of persistent identifiers (e.g., DOI);
- include links to datasets in the article metadata;
- where possible, provide access to data under open licenses (e.g., CC BY or CC0).
The Editorial Board encourages authors to adhere to the principles of openness, transparency, and reproducibility in scientific research.
